About
Garden Grove has been my family’s home for more than 40 years. It is where we built our lives, raised our family, and experienced the opportunities that make America such a remarkable nation. Serving as your City Councilmember from 2014 to 2022 was one of the greatest honors of my life, and I am asking for your support to continue serving the community that has given so much to my family.
My commitment to public service is deeply personal. As a refugee, my family came to the United States seeking freedom, opportunity, and a better future. America welcomed us with compassion, and Garden Grove became the community where we rebuilt our lives. I have never forgotten the generosity shown to my family. Public service is my way of giving back to this great nation and to the community.

1975
Comes to America as a refugee
Phat Bui comes to America with his parent as a political refugee after the fall of Saigon. Phat resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving to Garden Grove in 1984.

In 1954, his parents and five siblings escaped communist North Vietnam, seeking refuge in South Vietnam. After the fall of Saigon in 1975, his family escaped communist regime, traveled by boat and arrived in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
As a refugee who came to America with nothing, I have never forgotten the opportunities Garden Grove gave my family. Public service is my way of giving back to the community that has given us so much.
