Chairman, Vietnamese American Federation of Southern California

Seal of the Vietnamese American Federation of Southern California: the outline of California filled with the US flag and the yellow flag with three red stripes, ringed by the federation's name in Vietnamese and English

In 2015, Phat Bui was first elected by Vietnamese Americans in Southern California to serve the Vietnamese American community, beginning a decade of dedicated community leadership and service.

For ten years, he led the community in organizing the Little Saigon Tết Parade, one of the community’s most important annual cultural traditions—bringing generations together to celebrate Vietnamese heritage, preserve its rich traditions, and pass that legacy on to future generations of Vietnamese Americans.

Phat Bui also played a leading role in organizing the annual Black April Memorial, a solemn occasion to honor the soldiers, servicemembers, and civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of freedom and liberty.

The commemoration also remembers the countless Vietnamese who perished at sea or in the jungles during their dangerous journeys in search of freedom, human rights, and a new life after the fall of South Vietnam.

Through these years of service, Phat Bui has worked to preserve the history and cultural heritage of the Vietnamese American community, honor the sacrifices of earlier generations, and ensure that their stories of courage, sacrifice, resilience, and the pursuit of freedom are remembered by generations to come.
